New fitness equipment installed on Burlington’s bike path

Medical Center partners with the City of Burlington on the 'UVM Medical Center Fitness Trail'

In June, representatives from UVM Medical Center, the City of Burlington and community leaders celebrated the completion of the first phase of the Burlington Bike Path rehabilitation. Phase I includes three new installations of fitness equipment donated by UVM Medical Center.

The new equipment, located just north of the Sailing Center and south of North Beach, comprises the first of more than seven planned fitness installations that will welcome visitors along the 8-mile path, forming the “UVM Medical Center Fitness Trail.”

Medical Center experts in orthopedics, wellness, physical therapy, primary care and cardiac rehabilitation collaborated with experts from Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront to select equipment that would appeal to users of all fitness levels, work multiple muscle groups and include accessible and easy-to-follow instructions to support proper use.

“There is no better prescription for wellness than outdoor recreation, and so it is wonderful to see this first part of the renovated bike path come to fruition, providing our patients and the public with a place to pause, exercise, reflect and enjoy the view of Lake Champlain,” said UVM Medical Center and UVM Health Network CEO John Brumsted, MD.

The Parks Foundation and UVM Medical Center have played key roles in enhancing the path with new parks and equipment for the benefit of all our residents. ”
