Donation from artist, wife creates gallery without walls

Online art gallery features work from Vermont artists

University of Vermont Medical Center hallways, treatment areas, eateries and waiting areas feature a wonderful collection of work by Vermont artists. The artwork, much of it curated by Burlington City Arts, offers patients and visitors a welcome distraction from the clinical environment.

Much of this artwork is now viewable online, allowing its impact to reach beyond the hospital walls.

The online art collection is inspired by the late artist Michael Buckley, whose experience as a patient at The University of Vermont Cancer Center gave him insight into the need for introspection and emotional connection during challenging times.

Michael and his wife, Laura Lipton, donated proceeds from the sale of his artwork to create “Drawing Inspiration,” a virtual meeting space where hearts and minds can connect through art.

The Drawing Inspiration fund at the UVM Medical Center supports the online art collection, and the many ways patients and the community can interact with art.
